1. What is the Geography Bowl and what is its mission?

The Geography Bowl is an educational competition designed for public school, private school, and homeschooled students in 4th through 12th grade. The mission of the Geography Bowl is to show how geography is important and its life-changing applications.

2. Do I have to reside in the United States of America to participate?

No, you do not have to reside in the United States of America to participate. However, please note that the competition will be run on a PST to EST time schedule, so you will have to be available at that time to participate!

3. Will the 2022 Geography Bowl be held in a virtual format?

Because we had students participate from around the globe in the 2021 Geography Bowl, and anticipate the same this year, the competition will be held in a virtual format.

4. When will the 2022 Geography Bowl be held?

The 2022 Geography Bowl will be held on December 10, 2022.

5. Are you competing for yourself, a team, or both?

Both! Prizes will be given to the best performing teams and individuals!

6. Will there be prizes?

Yes, there will be prizes! All contestants will receive a participation certificate, and the best performing teams and individuals will win even a better prize (TBD).

7. What kind of cheating measures will be put in place, since the 2022 Geography Bowl is being held in a virtual format?

We recognize that intense cheating measures will need to be put in place since the competition is being held in a virtual format. All participants will be required to have their video on at all times during the Google Meets call during the competition. If Geography Bowl staff have a suspicion that an individual has cheated, that individual will go through further questioning.

8. Are there any written components to the competition?

The only written components to the competition will be the common questions. For common questions, contestants will have to write their answer down on a piece of paper, or a whiteboard, and show their answers to the camera.

9. Is there a registration fee to participate in the 2022 Geography Bowl?

No, there is no registration fee for the 2022 Geography Bowl. We wanted to make this competition as accessible as possible!

10. Does the participant need a coach to participate in the Geography Bowl?

Students do not need a coach to participate in the Geography Bowl, and the Geography Bowl does not encourage nor endorse “coaching for hire” who were in connection with either the National Geographic GeoBee, as well as the Geography Bowl.

11. Can parents watch their child participate in the 2022 Geography Bowl, and can I help them?

No, parents may not watch their child complete in the 2022 Geography Bowl, and under no circumstances, may the parent, guardian, or any other person help anyone with Geography Bowl questions. This is considered a violation to the Honor Code that is mandated signed by the contestant prior to completing registration. Those who commit any violation to the Honor Code will face consequences, and those consequences are not restricted to the contestant.

12. I am a school member. Can I register my school for the Geography Bowl?

The Geography Bowl is meant to be a competition for interested students, and not for schools. Schools may not register for the Geography Bowl, nor may take credit for how any individuals do in the Geography Bowl.
